Liberty Fantasies of Porta Venezia123456789101112
Porta Venezia is where Milan’s turn-of-the-century architects let their imaginations run wild. Flowers climb apartment façades, female figures emerge from stone, balconies curl like vines and glazed ceramics transform entire street corners into luminous pictures. The walk begins with Liberty created for the public city, from a former market pavilion to an entertainment complex and a palace notorious for scandal. Along the way, Casa Campanini and Casa Berri-Meregalli reveal two dramatically different visions: one elegant and personal, the other dark, rugged and fantastical. The visual climax arrives around Via Malpighi. Casa Galimberti glows with painted ceramic figures, while Casa Guazzoni replaces color with deep sculptural relief and restless shadow. Quieter residential façades then show how the same language spread into ordinary rental housing across a rapidly expanding neighborhood. This tour is ideal for architecture lovers, photographers and curious walkers who enjoy looking beyond famous monuments. Take your time, look upward and bring a zoom lens—the most delightful faces, flowers and iron creatures often hide several floors above the pavement.

Palazzina Liberty

A surviving market pavilion wraps everyday commerce in colorful floral Liberty ornament.

Begin with an unusual civic expression of Milanese Liberty, built as part of the former Verziere produce market. Ceramic friezes celebrate fruit, vegetables and urban abundance across a practical pavilion. Its park setting provides rare space to step back and see how ornament transformed an everyday commercial building.
