Easter Rising: Streets of Rebellion12345678910
This walk turns familiar central Dublin streets into the landscape of the 1916 Easter Rising. You will discover how years of organizing, revolutionary communications and military planning converged around the General Post Office. From the GPO’s monumental portico, the route slips behind the famous façade and follows the garrison’s desperate Friday-night evacuation. Henry Place, Moore Lane and O’Rahilly Parade reveal a cramped battlefield of service yards, breached walls, burning buildings and civilian homes. Moore Street provides the emotional climax. Its living market surrounds the protected terrace where the wounded leaders established their final headquarters and decided that further resistance would cost too many civilian lives. History lovers, curious locals and visitors who enjoy reading hidden stories in ordinary streets will find this route especially rewarding. It is compact, walkable and unusually immersive, linking national events with the experiences of workers, traders, residents, nurses and couriers.

Irish Wireless School

Rebels used wireless technology here to announce their republic beyond Ireland.

At the corner of Abbey Street and O’Connell Street, rebels occupied Reis’s Chambers and transmitted news of the Irish Republic in Morse code. The original building is gone, but the location reveals a strikingly modern side of the Rising: its leaders understood that a revolution had to be broadcast as well as fought.
